The Iguanas add their fifth victory at the 'Andrés Quintana Roo' stadium, now against the University of Guadalajara, on the twelfth day of the 2023 Apertura Tournament of the MX Expansion League

Cancún, Quintana Roo October 5, 2023.- Cancún FC is in the fight for the leadership of the 2023 Apertura Tournament of the MX Expansion League.

The Iguanas squad added its fifth victory at the 'Andrés Quintana Roo' stadium, after beating (2-0) Leones Negros of the University of Guadalajara, within the framework of the twelfth day.

On the occasion of the Breast Cancer Prevention and Timely Detection campaign organized by Mexican soccer, Mrs. María Elena Jiménez de la Cruz, a survivor of this disease, led the formal ceremony, prior to the start of the match. Subsequently, Giovanni Solazzi and Alejandro Vela, vice president and director of sports operations of the Iguanas, respectively, gave him a pink ball autographed by all the Cancún FC players.

Montserrat 'Monster' Rendón, a UFC fighter from Cancun, received the team shirt from the board during halftime.

The hosts opened the scoring at 5' with a goal from the Colombian, José Rodríguez. Johan Alonzo shot from the right wing, however, the coffee grower appeared on the other side to close the clamp and just push the ball to the base of the post.

With the advantage, Cancún FC took advantage of the moment they were experiencing in the match against an opponent who seemed not to wake up from their lethargy.

Not to change, in the 13th minute Leones Negros suffered the expulsion of Arturo Javier Ledezma for fouling José Rodríguez himself on the edge of the large area, when he was escaping at full speed, looking for the second goal.

Better scenario, impossible for those at home. With everything in their favor, they led to constant arrivals of men, such as Raúl Castillo and Alfonso Tamay, but without reflecting it on the scoreboard.

Still in the final stretch of the first half, the University of Guadalajara had equalized, however, the whistler, Martín Molina Astorga, ruled it out for offside.

With his fifth goal of the campaign, Alfonso Tamay finished the match at 79', after eluding the defense's mark and shooting from outside the large area at Jorge Hernández's left post. Great goal! It was 2-0!

Their fifth success at home and sixth in the competition, positions those led by the teacher, Luis Arce, with 19 points. For their part, the people of Jalisco were left with 20.

On the thirteenth date, Cancún FC will face Alebrijes at the Technological Institute of Oaxaca, on Saturday, October 14 at 6:05 p.m., Quintana Roo time.
