In a vibrant Final, the melenudos defeated (3-2) Ejidatarios de Bonfil at the 'Andrés Quintana Roo' stadium with goals from Arturo Hernández and a double from Eddison Navarro
Cancún, Quintana Roo, January 12, 2025.- Leones Negros of the University of Guadalajara was proclaimed champion (3-2) of the 'Copa Cancún FC' at the 'Andrés Quintana Roo' stadium, a venue that hosted a vibrant Final against Ejidatarios de Bonfil.
Despite the intense heat, the atmosphere in the building on superblock 21 foreshadowed a colossal battle between the people of Jalisco and Bonfil.
The melenudos opened the scoring at 15' with the first goal from Eddison Navarro. Two minutes later, the same number '156' would score the second in his personal account.
Wounded in his pride, Bonfil had no choice but to come from behind to achieve, until then, what seemed impossible. Driven by his fans who, to the rhythm of the batucada, never stopped cheering them on, Ejidatarios returned to the game with a goal by Gustavo Olvera, in the 19th minute.
The best was yet to come. The green wave repeatedly attacked Leones, but it was not reflected on the scoreboard. It was not until the 51st minute that Edilson Mena finally made it 2-2.
It seemed that the match would be decided in a penalty shootout, however, the University of Guadalajara orchestrated a counterattack through Daniel Torres, who from the left wing passed to Arturo Hernández in the heart of the area, who simply pushed the ball to declare the victory for Guadalajara.
Boston, third
Prior to the Final, Boston Cancún FC faced Cruz Azul Lagunas for third place at the headquarters of the 'Guillermo Cañedo' Children's and Youth League.
The Iguanas' affiliate beat Cruz Azul Lagunas (3-1) with goals from Marioni Flores (37'), Gael Gutiérrez (40') and Diego Oliva (65').
The Cancún FC board of directors, represented by the sports director, Jonathan Himelfarb, Alejandro Vela, director of sports operations and the professor, Jesús Enrique Carbajal, director of Basic Forces, respectively, presented recognitions to the team captains, in addition to individual awards.
Jorge Orozco (Best Goalkeeper), Kevin Madrigal (MVP), both from the University of Guadalajara and a tie between Gael Gutiérrez (Boston Cancún FC) and Emmanuel Montalvo (Bonfil), were the best scorers of the competition.
