CANCUN - Cancún Fútbol Club announced today that it has been acquired by Negocios en Fútbol Profesional SA de CV. The transaction received approval from the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) and was approved by the recent assembly of owners of the Liga de Expansión MX on June 1, 2022.
Business in Professional Football is a Mexican company whose two largest shareholders are Ben Guill and Jeff Luhnow. The company has a strategic relationship with Blue Crow Sports Group, based in Houston, Texas, where Mr. Guill is the Chairman of the Board of Directors and Mr. Luhnow is the CEO. Blue Crow Sports Group is a sports technology company with collaborations and investments in multiple sports on multiple continents.
Today's announcement is the conclusion of a thorough and detailed process that began last summer. Jeff Luhnow, who will take over as the team's new President, said: "We are extremely proud to become the new stewards of Cancun FC. This is a world-class destination, and we look forward to working with the people of the Cancun and Riviera communities. Maya to build a club that the entire community can be proud of, both on and off the pitch. We will install a winning philosophy in all areas of the club, establish a clear purpose and help provide leadership that allows the club to progress in the "Mexican soccer."
The club aims to become a unifying force for the city and will focus on elevating and incorporating the history, spirit and unique talent of Cancunenses into all elements of the organization.
As part of this new era for the Club, a new brand identity was introduced. The identity maintains the club's original turquoise and black colors, which represent the vibrant and unique color of the Riviera Maya coast. The new shield features the native spiny-tailed iguana. Their majestic resilience and ingenuity are an ideal representation of what this club stands for. The new shield also incorporates waves that highlight the city's coastal location, and includes new typography, inspired by the region's vibrant Mayan culture.
The crest is integrated into all the club's elements, including the Nike shirts. Cancún FC, like Pumas Tabasco, are the only clubs in the Expansion League that wear kits from the world's leading sportswear manufacturer.
The club is dedicated to working hand in hand with the local community to build a club that the entire city, and region, can be proud of and call their own.
"We are currently investing to improve the experience at the Andrés Quintana Roo stadium and will be introducing new food and beverage options, showcasing local artists and opening an 'iguana garden', the first of its kind," said vice president Giovanni Solazzi.
