Cancún, Quintana Roo, August 16, 2024.- The game against Mineros de Zacatecas will be very special for Cancún FC in the fourth round of the 2024 Apertura Tournament of the Liga de Expansión MX.

Their historic captain, Benjamín Galindo Cruz, will play 100 games as a player for the Iguanas. The number '23', champion of the 2023 Apertura Tournament and Champion of Champions, had one of the best years of his career, consolidating himself as the great leader of the squad led by the professor, Luis Arce.

“It is a source of pride for me to achieve this figure with the club that has given me so much. I remember very well when I arrived in December 2020 to do the preseason, and the truth is, it has been a huge personal and professional growth, very proud of what we have built,” acknowledged the 25-year-old defender.

The son of Mexican soccer legend Benjamín 'El Maestro' Galindo was led by Christian 'Chaco' Giménez in his debut on Thursday, February 4, on the fourth day of the Clausura 2021 against Tampico Madero. On that occasion, his team tied (1-1) at the 'Tamaulipas' stadium.

From then on, when he came on as a substitute for Steven Almeida in the 87th minute, he would forge one of his best stages with the Iguanas.

“The effort has been worth it because, if I look back, the whole journey has been long, difficult, with good things and not so good ones. I want to return to the First Division, and if it is with this club, then what better, because it would be a double satisfaction, trusting me when no one else did,” he concluded.

After a pair of consecutive victories at the start of the competition, one precisely at the 'Andrés Quintana Roo' stadium against Alteños de Tepatitlán and the recent one as a visitor in Oaxaca against Alebrijes, both by the same score (2-0), those led by the professor, Luis Arce, will return home to face the duels at the expense of the aforementioned Mineros and later, Tampico Madero, on Saturday, August 24.

In the five matches they played in 'paradise' against the scarlet team, including the final phase of the Apertura 2023, they have accumulated four wins and one draw. In addition, they have four wins in a row (3-2 in the Clausura 2023, 2-1 and 3-2 in the Apertura 2023 and 0-2 in Zacatecas, in the Clausura 2024).

Led by the Spaniard, Ignacio Castro, the Zacatecans will arrive in Cancun in fourth position, with six points, the same as their rival.

Mineros added two wins, three draws and only lost one as a visitor in the Clausura 2024 during the regular phase. In the Play-In, they beat (2-3) Club Atlético La Paz, but fell (3-0) to Leones Negros de la Universidad de Guadalajara, in the Quarterfinals.

At the start of the current campaign, they beat Dorados (1-0) and Alebrijes de Oaxaca (3-0), both at the 'Carlos Vega Villalba'. In their most recent duel, they lost (1-0) against the University of Guadalajara, at the 'Jalisco' stadium.

The Zacatecans do not forget the elimination they suffered in the aforementioned Apertura 2023, when Cancún FC beat them (3-2) in the second leg of the Semifinal. The overall result ended with a thrilling draw (3-3), however, due to their better position in the table, the Iguanas advanced to the Final.
