CANCUN FC AND ZACATECAS MINERS AGREE TO A DRAW AT THE 'ANDRÉS QUINTANA ROO'

In the framework of Benjamín Galindo Jr.'s 100 games as a player for the Iguanas, he adds his first draw against the scarlet team in the 2024 Apertura Tournament of the Liga de Expansión MX

Cancún, Quintana Roo, August 17, 2024.- Cancún FC and Mineros de Zacatecas split honors (0-0) at the 'Andrés Quintana Roo' stadium, on the occasion of the fourth day of the 2024 Apertura Tournament of the Liga de Expansión MX.

In the framework of Benjamín Galindo Jr.'s 100 matches as a player for the Iguanas, he added his first draw since the one he rescued against Atlante in the first leg of the Campeón de Campeones Final, precisely in 'paradise'.

The Cancun board of directors organized a big party with children to honor their historic captain, an emotional moment, without a doubt, for the defender and the institution.

Mineros tried to surprise Gustavo Gutiérrez with a long-distance shot from José Ávila that the goalkeeper managed to control on the goal line.

Then, the scarlet captain, Andrés Mendoza, tested Gutiérrez with another powerful shot that barely went wide of his goal.

At 25', Johan Alonzo took a shot from the right that forced the goalkeeper, Leonardo Durán, to deflect with one hand when the ball threatened the base of the right post.

Cancún FC created a couple of dangerous opportunities. First, Axl Padilla fired a shot from the edge of the penalty area and Mineros was saved.

A minute later, Jorge Díaz Price executed a corner kick from the right, very close to Durán's left post, which almost ended in an Olympic goal.

The most anticipated moment of the night was when Benjamín Galindo Jr. received his framed jersey with the number 100 from the board, surrounded by his father, the Aztec legend, Benjamín 'El Maestro' Galindo and family.

In the second half, the coach, Luis Arce, ordered the entry of Óscar Villa, Alan Rodríguez and Mauro Guadarrama to replace Axl Padilla, Paul Uscanga and Zahid Muñoz, all at 61'.

Leonardo Zabala and Gael Rodríguez did so in the 83rd and 87th minutes, replacing Hedgardo Marín and Jorge Díaz Price, respectively.

Intense, with opportunities for both sides, the Iguanas did not stop breaking the zero on the scoreboard, despite the fact that at times they neutralized each other. In fact, in the dying moments, Mauro Guadarrama was close to becoming a hero with a header that went slightly wide of Durán's left post.

The draw consolidates the Caribbeans as the best defense in the competition, without conceding goals, although it put an end to a streak of four consecutive victories against Mineros. They have a total of seven points, the same as Zacatecas, but with one less match.

On the fifth date, Cancún FC will repeat at home, this time against Tampico Madero, on Saturday, August 24 at 6:00 p.m.
