CANCUN FC FALLS BY THE MINIMUM DIFFERENCE IN CELAYA
A header from Adolfo Domínguez in the agony of the first half allowed the Toros to add their second victory of the 2023 Apertura Tournament of the MX Expansion League, first in the 'Miguel Alemán Valdés'
Celaya, Guanajuato September 27, 2023.- A goal from Adolfo Domínguez made the difference for the Toros del Atlético Celaya against Cancún FC at the 'Miguel Alemán Valdés' stadium, corresponding to the eleventh day of the 2023 Apertura Tournament of the Expansion League MX.
The game began and a header from Leobardo López almost opened the scoring. Then, at 19', the captain of the horns himself connected with a new header to the left post that Edson Reséndez deflected spectacularly with two hands.
Celaya was on top. Now, Alfonso Sánchez tried another header, but it went slightly off the base of the right post.
Cancún FC's response was immediate. At 25', the Colombian, José Rodríguez, enabled Alfonso Tamay from the right and without thinking, the Cancun native took a shot that made the defense and the goalkeeper, Nicolás Vikonis, tremble.
Toros attacked the Iguanas, but without reflecting it on the scoreboard. On the other hand, Cancún FC resisted well behind. The 39th minute was passing, when Johan Alonzo shot across the right wing and he was nowhere near beating Vikonis' effort.
The hosts did not stop in their attempt to break the zero. Michelle Rodríguez sent a great service from the left to the other side, where Adolfo Domínguez appeared with a header hit the base of the left post to leave Edson Reséndez with no chance. At 42', Celaya took the lead.
The Iguanas started the second half very offensively, putting pressure on the Guanajuato team. Raúl Castillo escaped at full speed, however, when it seemed that he had an unbeatable opportunity against Vikonis, his shot flew.
Luis Arce adjusted his team with the additions of Axl Padilla and Paúl Uscanga to replace Cheik Traore and Junior Moreira, respectively, both in the 56th minute.
Celaya almost converted the second with another header from Adolfo Domínguez, but Edson Reséndez with a saving hand prevented his frame from falling.
In his eagerness to reinforce the axis of the attack, the professor, Luis Arce, ordered the entry of Arturo Sánchez for Alfonso Tamay. Number '11' fought, but had no way to worry the Bulls' lower team.
With five minutes left, Johan Alonzo was relieved by Leonardo Sánchez, also a player for Pioneros Cancún FC in the Premier League.
With the defeat, the Cancunenses stagnated with 16 units. For their part, those from the shoal agreed to ten.
