CANCUN FC ACHIEVES VITAL WIN AGAINST ATLÉTICO MORELIA AND CLINGS TO THE LIGUILLA

With goals from Rodrigo Reyes, Mauro Guadarrama and Johan Alonzo, the Iguanas triumph (3-1) against the Purépechas at the 'Andrés Quintana Roo' stadium and are stalking the ticket to the final phase of the Apertura 2024 of the Liga de Expansión MX

Cancún, Quintana Roo, October 25, 2024.- Cancún FC achieved an important victory (3-1) at the 'Andrés Quintana Roo' stadium, thanks to goals from Rodrigo Reyes, Mauro Guadarrama and Johan Alonzo against Atlético Morelia, on matchday 14 of the 2024 Apertura Tournament of the Liga de Expansión MX.

The team led by coach Luis Arce needed to add three points to stay in the fight for a ticket to the final phase, in view of the double matchday next week, when they visit, first, on Tuesday, October 29, Dorados de Sinaloa at the 'Caliente' stadium and later, on Friday, November 1, Club Atlético La Paz.

The result allows the Iguanas to access 17 points and climb to eighth position for now. In contrast, for the team led by Mario García, it practically represents elimination.

Without a doubt, an emotional moment was the minute of silence observed by the fans before the start of the match in memory of Fernando 'Toro' Valenzuela.

Cancún FC played the game, even with a torrential downpour in the middle. In the end, that dominance was reflected in the scoreboard, when in the 33rd minute, Rodrigo Reyes joined the attack and in the small area, he connected with a shot at the base of the right post of the goalkeeper, Antonio Torres.

The first half ended with a hectic pace for the Iguanas, with some very dangerous plays. At 41', Johan Alonzo orchestrated a counterattack in the middle of the field, guarded by the Michoacan defense. Fortunately for the visitors, the number '7' shot went wide of Antonio Torres' goal.

Still in the 43rd minute, Mauro Guadarrama extended the lead with a lethal header in the six-yard box, derived from a corner kick from the right by Jorge Díaz Price.

In the second half, Cancún FC maintained the same tone, aware that a third goal would dictate the game. And so it happened, when at 59' the Colombian, José Rodríguez, passed the ball to Mauro Guadarrama on the right wing in the small area, who, guarded by the Michoacan defense, managed to move the ball back to the arrival of Johan Alonzo on the edge of the large area, to hit a powerful shot at the base of the right post of the goalkeeper, Torres.

It seemed that the Michoacans would leave empty-handed, however, at 87', Christopher Trejo, made his presence felt with the goal of honor (3-1).
