The Expansion League champion thrashes the Itsmeños (3-0) in their presentation at the 'Andrés Quintana Roo' stadium, on the second day of the 2024 Clausura Tournament

Cancún, Quintana Roo January 16, 2024.- A great party crowned the first victory (3-0) of Cancún FC, champion of the MX Expansion League, in the 2024 Clausura Tournament against Alebrijes de Oaxaca at the 'Andrés Quintana stadium Roo'.

Fireworks and a Turibus tour with the trophy, headed by Jeff Luhnow and members of the Cancun board, decorated the Iguana night.

On the field, of course, the recital of the squad led by the teacher, Luis Arce, in the second half, was enough to achieve their first success.

The Caribbeans did not give up any type of freedom in their impeccable low team, led by Benjamín Galindo Jr.

On offense, men like the Colombian, José Rodríguez, the Cancun native, Alfonso Tamay and the explosiveness of the African, Cheik Traore, put the visitors in check.

At 17', Oaxaca dared when Josué Gómez took a powerful shot that went slightly wide of the cabin guarded by Gustavo Gutiérrez.

The loud battle led to a goalless draw in the first half.

Already in the complement, the hosts opened the scoring at 58', courtesy of Alfonso Tamay, just in time to close the clamp on the right post of the goalkeeper, Paz.

Then, in the 70th minute, Cancún FC secured the victory with a 2-0 score, thanks to Johan Alonzo.

Still, at 74', the champion made it 3-0 with a low shot by Raúl Castillo from outside the large area, placed at the base of the right post of the goalkeeper, Octavio Paz.

The Iguanas' seventh game without losing at home, since September 6, when they fell (1-2) against Coyotes de Tlaxcala in the Apertura 2023, allows the Caribbean team to add their first three points of the competition.

On the other hand, for the Oaxacans it meant going blank in their debut and extending their streak without a win on tour, since Tuesday, March 28, after beating (0-1) Cimarrones de Sonora.

On the third day, the champion will repeat at the 'Andrés Quintana Roo' stadium, on Thursday, January 25, neither more nor less than against the Colts of Iron of Atlante, a rival whom they defeated in the Final, on December 3.
