Cancún, Quintana Roo, January 10, 2025.- Cancún FC begins its activity of the year in 'paradise', at the 'Andrés Quintana Roo' stadium, when this Saturday it receives the visit of Correcaminos from the Autonomous University of Tamaulipas (UAT), corresponding to the first day of the 2025 Clausura Tournament of the Liga de Expansión MX.
It will undoubtedly be a great event for the Caribbeans, since since the Apertura 2020, in their debut season, they have never hosted the opening match at home.
From that moment on, he did it eight times outside Cancun, one precisely against 'Corre', at the 'Marte R. Gómez', on Wednesday, January 13, within the framework of the start of the Clausura 2021.
In addition to the aforementioned match against the northern team, there will be a total of seven matches that will be played as host, all on 'Sábados de la Iguana', as occurred until the previous semester.
For this campaign, the fourth under the command of the professor, Luis Arce, he will have reinforcements, such as the midfielders, the former runner-up of the U-17 world championship, Iván Ochoa and Armando Chávez, from the UAT. The forward, Sergio de los Ríos, is another of the novelties for this semester.
Colombian José Rodríguez was crowned the top scorer of 2024 in this category, with 17 goals (9 in the Clausura, which meant he was crowned top scorer, while in the Apertura, he scored eight). He is about to start his fourth tournament with the Iguanas.
On four occasions when the Cancun team hosted the Tamaulipas team at the 'Andrés Quintana Roo', they won twice (2-0 in the Apertura 2020 and 2-1 in the Apertura 2023), in exchange for a pair of losses, for the same (0-1) in the Apertura 2021 and Clausura 2023, in that order.
Eugui returns to the helm of the UAT
For the 2025 Clausura, Correcaminos will bet on the experienced technical director, the Uruguayan, Héctor Hugo Eugui, 77 years old, very well identified by the Tamaulipas fans.
Eugui managed clubs in the top circuit, such as Indios de Juárez, Toluca, Estudiantes-Tecos and Puebla, among others, although he has been away from the bench for several years.
UAT, with only nine points in the Apertura 2024 (second to last place), only announced goalkeeper Luis Chávez as a reinforcement.
