Cancún, Quintana Roo, March 25, 2024.- The 2024 Clausura Tournament of the Expansion League enters its final stretch and Cancún FC, the champion of the competition, will play its penultimate home game of the regular phase, when this Tuesday it hosts Club Deportivo Tapatío at the 'Andrés Quintana Roo' stadium.

The team led by professor Luis Arce has gone eleven games without knowing defeat as hosts, since Coyotes de Tlaxcala imposed conditions (1-2) on the eighth day of the 2023 Apertura Tournament.

In addition to their unbeaten streak at the building on superblock 21, the Caribbean team has six games without losing, since they fell (2-0) against Leones Negros of the University of Guadalajara at the 'Jalisco' stadium, on Friday, February 9, in the fifth round.

Just last March 19, they beat the Alteños de Tepatitlán by precisely that score with goals from the Colombian, José Rodríguez (leading scorer with eight goals) and the Cancun native, Jorge Díaz Price, respectively.

With 20 points, among the top four in the table (in third place, tied with Celaya, even, also with the same goal difference +7, but with one more goal than the horned ones), the Iguanas are heading to the Liguilla directly, but to do so, it will be essential to add the three points in the remaining matches.

Universidad de Guadalajara (23), Venados (23), Cancún FC (20) and Celaya (20) are expected to directly qualify for the 'Fiesta Grande', although Club Atlético La Paz is lurking with 19 points.

So far, in 25 games, between the Apertura 2023 and Clausura 2024 (regular phase only), Cancún FC's numbers with Luis Arce are as follows: 15 wins, three draws, seven losses, 44 goals for, 26 against and 48 points.

At the 'Andrés Quintana Roo', in that same period (until the duel against Tepatitlán), the champion played 12 games, won nine, tied two, lost one (the one against Tlaxcala, on September 6), scored 26, received ten and totaled 29 points.

In 132 games so far since the 2020 Apertura (121 in the regular phase, eight in the Liguilla and three in the Repesca), they have recorded 46 wins in the regular phase and three in the 'Fiesta Grande', that is, if they are successful against the rojiblancos, they would add their 50th victory in the history of the franchise.

The team led by Arturo Ortega has 14 points, thanks to four wins, a pair of draws, four losses, 16 goals for and 10 against, placed in ninth place.

They have a pending game, corresponding to the eighth date, next April 5 against Dorados in Sinaloa.

The immediate precedent between both teams was on Saturday, July 22, at the 'Akron' stadium, when they tied without goals on the opening day of the Apertura 2023.

In Cancun, the 'Rebaño Sagrado' affiliate will play for the fourth time. In the previous three, they curiously lost by the same score (1-0) in the Clausura 2021, Clausura 2022 and Clausura 2023, in that order.

The four that they won were on tour against Mineros (0-4), Cimarrones (1-2), Coyotes (0-3) and recently Tepatitlán (0-4), in exchange for a stumble (1-0) against the University of Guadalajara, with 13 goals in favor, just a couple against and 12 points.

Sebastián Wilke and Benjamín Sánchez, with a poker and a hat-trick, are the best scorers. In the case of Sánchez, for example, he made his debut in this category against Cancún FC, on Tuesday, October 13, in the Apertura 2020.
