CANCUN FC PAYS AN EMOTIONAL FAREWELL TO JUNIOR MOREIRA

Management, coaching staff and players wish the African midfielder success as he looks ahead to his new adventure with Hartford Athletic in American soccer.

Cancún, Quintana Roo, December 27, 2024.- Junior Moreira, listed as the foreign player with the most minutes so far in the history of Cancún FC, concluded his cycle with the Iguanas.

His new challenge will be Hartford Athletic of American soccer, which plays in the USL Championship, founded on July 11, 2018, based in Hatford, Connecticut.

“I have a lot to thank you for supporting me. I lack the words to express how important Cancún FC is to me. It's not a goodbye, it's just a 'see you later'. Thank you all very much,” said Junior, visibly moved during the farewell that the board, coaching staff and players gave him at the 'Andrés Quintana Roo' stadium.

The teacher, Luis Arce, then acknowledged that 'Junior perfectly represents the club's DNA, formed in this institution'.

“On the one hand, I am very sad to say goodbye to him, but on the other, I am happy because he is fulfilling his personal and professional goals. I met you for a year and a half, and I have seen you grow a lot. I wish you much success, remember that Cancún FC is your home,” the coach expressed to his now former manager.

Alejandro Vela, director of sports operations, said that 'you are leaving a difficult gap to fill, aware that we have to move forward; I congratulate you, you earned it, enjoy it a lot'.

The 21-year-old African, originally from Guinea-Bissau, made his debut with the Caribbean team on matchday 13 of the Apertura 2021, on Tuesday, October 19, in the match that they drew 0-0 against Pumas Tabasco at the 'Olímpico' stadium in Villahermosa.

From that tournament until the 2024 Apertura, he added a total of 96 games (83 in the regular phase and 13 in the Liguilla), 77 as a starter (65 in the regular season and 12 in the final phase), with 6,884 minutes between both instances.

His first coach at the club was the Argentine naturalized Mexican, Federico Vilar. The Spaniard, Íñigo Idiákez and recently, Luis Arce, also witnessed his evolution as a footballer in Cancún.

A jersey signed by the entire squad and the classic souvenir photo made the departure of the former number '28' even more special.
