CANCÚN FC WINS SECOND WIN IN THE 2024 APERTURA AND THIRD WIN IN A ROW AGAINST ALEBRIJES
The Iguanas triumph (0-2) at the Oaxaca Technological Institute with goals from Colombians José Rodríguez and Mauro Pérez, and confirm the dominance they have exercised against the Itsmeños in the last three matches
Oaxaca de Juárez, August 10, 2024.- Cancún FC added its second victory in the 2024 Apertura Tournament of the Liga de Expansión MX and by the same score (0-2) as in its presentation, now as a visitor, at the Instituto Tecnológico de Oaxaca against Alebrijes, on the third day.
As if that were not enough, the result confirms the dominance that has been exercised in the last three duels against the Itsmeños, since the Apertura 2023, all with victories (a pair in Oaxaca), with ten goals in favor and just two conceded.
The game started late due to an electrical storm, which forced the Civil Protection authorities to reschedule it almost an hour later.
With the exception of goalkeeper Gustavo Gutiérrez, who took Christopher Andrade's place, coach Luis Arce repeated the lineup that faced Tepatitlán in Cancún.
In the opening minutes, the hosts provoked a header from Colombian Orlando Ballesteros, when the South American tried to surprise Gustavo Gutiérrez in the left corner.
At 26', the Iguanas almost broke the tie, if it weren't for the fact that the goalkeeper, Octavio Paz, made a great save from Axl Padilla, when he tried to surprise him with a powerful shot on the edge of the penalty area.
Before the end of the first half, Paul Uscanga tested Paz with a mid-distance shot, but it went wide of the Oaxacan goalkeeper.
In the second half, the Caribbean team opened the scoring at 48' with a great play by Jorge Díaz Price, who set up Colombian José Rodríguez in the penalty area, who fired a powerful shot close to the base of the right post, beating the outstretched goalkeeper Octavio Paz.
Alebrijes had the chance to equalize in the 59th minute, but Hedgardo Marín cleared Armando González's shot off the line.
Four minutes later, at 63' to be exact, Luis Arce ordered the entry of Alan Rodríguez and Mauro Pérez to replace Paul Uscanga and Zahid Muñoz, at 63'. It immediately paid off, when in his first action, in a counterattack, Mauro shot at Paz's left post. The Cancun team extended their lead (0-2).
Later, Adan Zaragoza and Andres 'Lobo' Iniestra replaced Johan Alonzo and Jorge Diaz Price, respectively, in the 79th minute. Almost at the end, in the 87th minute, Oscar Villa took the place of Axl Padilla.
Still in the 89th minute, José Rodríguez was close to scoring the third, after being assisted by Alan Rodríguez, however, the South American did not connect his shot correctly against Octavio Paz.
Their second success allows the Iguanas to add six points and remain in the top spots of the competition.
On the fourth day, Cancún FC will play against Mineros de Zacatecas, on Saturday, August 17 at 6:00 p.m., the first of two consecutive games at the 'Andrés Quintana Roo' stadium.
