CANCUN FC BEATS 'TEPA' AND EXTENDS STREAK TO ELEVEN GAMES WITHOUT LOSING AT HOME
With their victory (2-0) against the Alteños in the eleventh round of the Clausura 2024 of the Expansion League, the Iguanas also have six games in a row without knowing defeat, since February 9.
Cancún, Quintana Roo, March 19, 2024.- The champion, Cancún FC, is in top form heading into the 'Fiesta Grande' of the Expansion League, after adding its sixth victory in the Clausura 2024, this time (2-0) against the Alteños de Tepatitlán at the 'Andrés Quintana Roo' stadium.
The team led by professor Luis Arce is on the path to a second championship, now that they have gone eleven games without losing as hosts and the last six without knowing defeat, since they were beaten (2-0) by Leones Negros of the University of Guadalajara, on Friday, February 9 at the 'Jalisco' stadium.
The result also meant the end of a streak for the Caribbean team, without being able to beat the Jalisco team, since the Clausura 2022, when they imposed conditions (2-1) on Tuesday, February 8, on the seventh date.
'The Kings of the Home', accompanied by their parents, entered the General East Zone for free, a plus, without a doubt, to support the Iguanas in this final stretch of the regular phase of the competition on the way to winning the 'bi'.
Cancún FC tried to impose its style from the start of the match against a well-organized Jalisco side in their lower half. It was in the 24th minute that the Iguanas created the most dangerous play with a shot from the right by Johan Alonzo.
After half an hour, at 35' to be exact, the champions opened the scoring with a play from the left by Axl Padilla, who passed to José Rodríguez in the heart of the area, where without thinking, he connected with the ball to beat the goalkeeper, Rubén Castellanos. The goal, the eighth for the Colombian, confirms him as the top scorer of the campaign.
In the second half, Cancún FC tried to extend the lead, but, just like in the first half, they struggled to find a second goal that would have defined the match.
The duel was intense, with the Alteños never giving up until Iván Acero was sent off, fighting at all times despite the disadvantage they had on the scoreboard. They were attacking more with desire than good football, however, just when the Cancun native, Jorge Díaz Price had replaced Raúl Castillo, in the first action he participated in, he stood up to the goalkeeper, Rubén Castellanos and with a powerful shot to the near post, made it 2-0 in the 65th minute.
The victory allows the Cancun team to access 20 points and place themselves as second place for the moment. For Alteños, it is their seventh setback, with only seven points.
On matchday 13 (they will rest on matchday 12) they will repeat as local team, this time against Tapatío, also on 'Martes de la Iguana', on March 26.
