A torrential downpour frustrated what seemed like a great party at the 'Andrés Quintana Roo'; After almost three hours of suspension, the game resumed and the Iguanas will face Atlante, thanks to their victory (3-2, aggregate 3-3)
Cancún, Quintana Roo November 27, 2023.- Cancún FC is in the grand Final of the 2023 Apertura Tournament of the MX Expansion League!
A torrential downpour thwarted what seemed like a great party at the 'Andrés Quintana Roo', with more than 10,000 fans to enjoy the second leg of the Semifinals of the 2023 Apertura Tournament of the MX Expansion League.
After almost three hours of suspension, the game resumed and the Iguanas experienced moments of urgency to beat Mineros de Zacatecas (3-2) and advance to the Final with their aggregate tie (3-3).
At first, a party in every sense of the word. While on the field, the Caribbean players sought the feat from the referee's whistle, Luis Alfredo García, player number '12' did not tire of encouraging them with his chants in the stands, weighing in at all times.
It was a dizzying start, a shower of goals for those led by the teacher, Luis Arce.
In less than 15 minutes, Cancún FC was already winning 2-0 with scores from Johan Alonzo (10') and José Juan 'Gallito' Vázquez (14'), with a great long-distance goal, to the left corner, impossible for the goalkeeper, Oscar Gonzalez. Goal poem! 'Andrés Quintana Roo' was a madhouse!
Inspired by the pair of goals that brought them closer to the Final, the Colombian, José Rodríguez, scored a third goal in the 33rd minute, which practically represented a heavy task for the visitors.
Just after 3-0, a downpour fell that forced the game to be suspended for more than two hours.
After the restart, at 9:15 p.m., Mineros had no choice but to go for three goals to reverse history.
Kevin Magaña had made it 3-1. Then, a penalty in favor of Mineros made the tie more difficult. At 60', Brian Figueroa got his team back into the fight.
Cardiac, like in the Quarterfinals against Venados, Cancún FC offended its rival with dangerous chances from men like Arturo Sánchez and José Rodríguez.
Unofficially, Iguanas and Potros de Hierro del Atlante would compete in the Final, on Wednesday, November 29 at the Ciudad de los Deportes and Saturday, December 2 at the 'Andrés Quintana Roo' stadium, respectively.
This Monday, the Expansion League will announce the official days and times.
