Cancún, Quintana Roo, March 30, 2024.- Boston Cancún FC and Inter Playa del Carmen played a thrilling draw (2-2) on the synthetic field of the State High Performance Sports Center (CEDAR) in Cancún, on matchday 23 of the 2023-2024 Season of the Third Professional Division League (LTDP), Group One.
In the penalty shootout, with their victory (3-4), Javier Jácome's team earned the extra point. The goalkeepers, Jorge de la Rosa and Hugo Reséndiz led a great duel, although in the end, the visitors came out better off.
Diego Arreola created the first big chance for the hosts, with a long-range shot after being set up by Juan 'Turbo' Marín on the left.
The Bostonians took the initiative of the match against an Inter Playa that was well organized in the defensive sector and dangerous on offense, every time they threatened the goal defended by Jorge de la Rosa.
A goal by Ismael Mendoza at 31', into the left corner of the goalkeeper, Hugo Reséndiz, put the home team ahead. At 34', Moisés Anguiano tied the match (1-1) for the team from Playa.
Inter had a chance to turn the game around in the 38th minute, but Gabriel Flores' shot hit goalkeeper De la Rosa as he narrowed at the near post.
Boston also came close to scoring a second, but Ismael Mendoza was unable to convert in a one-on-one with Reséndiz, with a shot that went wide of the left post.
Already in the second half, Boston came out determined to regain the lead and did so in the 66th minute, when Alejandro Núñez fired a shot from outside the penalty area that beat Hugo Reséndiz. Great goal!
Intense, harsh, controversial, after a penalty not called on Romario Domínguez when he was fouled in the penalty area, it was well taken advantage of by the team from Playa, derived from an offensive that meant the tie (2-2) led by Zahid Silva with a shot to the center by Jorge de la Rosa.
The draw allows the team led by Edgar Iván Liévano Flores to add 43 points. For its part, Inter Playa already has 56.
On matchday 24, the Cancún FC affiliate will visit Mons Calpe on Saturday, April 6.
