The champion won with the ninth goal by the Colombian, José Rodríguez, however, a last-minute own goal meant a tie (1-1) for the Jalisco team, on matchday 13 of the 2024 Clausura of the Expansion League
Cancún, Quintana Roo, March 26, 2024.- When it seemed that the champion, Cancún FC, would add its seventh victory of the 2024 Clausura Tournament of the Expansion League, thanks to the ninth goal by the Colombian, José Rodríguez, Tapatío rescued the tie (1-1) with an own goal by Rodrigo Reyes at the 'Andres Quintana Roo' stadium.
The Iguanas have now gone 12 games without losing at the property on superblock 21, since they were beaten by Tlaxcala on Wednesday, September 6, on the eighth day of the Apertura 2023.
The team led by professor Luis Arce has not known defeat since the fifth match, when Leones Negros of the University of Guadalajara imposed conditions (2-0), on Friday, February 9 at the 'Jalisco' stadium.
The start of the game was lively, with chances on both sides. First, Tapatío created a shot by Gilberto García, forcing goalkeeper Gustavo Gutiérrez to deflect it to a corner.
Then, Raúl Castillo executed a free kick from the left, right where the goalkeeper, Eduardo García, was, who fired the shot with both hands.
It was not until the 37th minute when Cancún FC opened the scoring, thanks to an excellent service from Johan Alonzo on the right, to the edge of the area, to the arrival of the Colombian, José Rodríguez, who, uncomfortable with the Guadalajara mark, shot on the turn to beat Eduardo García at the left post. The ninth goal for the coffee grower in the competition, consolidating himself as the top scorer.
Still in the throes of the first half, Rodriguez himself had the second, when he escaped at full speed with the defense marking him, however, his shot was blocked by the goalkeeper, Garcia. Tapatío was saved!
Already in the second half, at 60', Johan Alonzo took a shot from the right, slightly wide of García's left post.
Regular time was coming to an end when the visitors tied the match with an own goal by Rodrigo Reyes. The Cancun native lobbed the ball at goalkeeper Gustavo Gutiérrez, who could do nothing to prevent the goal.
The draw, their third at home, allows the Caribbeans to access 21 points. For its part, the 'Rebaño Sagrado' subsidiary has 15.
In the penultimate round of the regular phase, Cancún FC will visit Venados FC, its peninsular rival, on Wednesday, April 3 at the Carlos Iturralde Rivero stadium.
