Cancún, Quintana Roo, April 2, 2024.- Cancún FC and Venados FC face each other again, after the exciting Quarterfinal series they starred in in the Apertura 2023 and proclaimed the Caribbean team the winner, in the return leg, on Sunday, November 19 at the 'Andrés Quintana Roo' stadium.

Precisely, as a result of that dramatic elimination they starred in (2-2 overall, which ultimately qualified the Caribbeans due to their better position in the table), the Iguanas will once again coincide with their bitter rival in the Peninsular Classic, now in the penultimate day of the 2024 Clausura Tournament of the Expansion League, but in Yucatecan territory, the 'Carlos Iturralde Rivero'.

Although it is true that there will be three points at stake, the game looks like a real Liguilla, with the challenge for the champion to win in order to position themselves as well as possible in the table, in view of the 'Fiesta Grande'.

With two dates left in the regular phase, the outlook for the team led by professor Luis Arce is as follows: they have gone seven games without losing, since Friday, February 9, when the University of Guadalajara beat them (2-0) at the 'Jalisco' stadium.

In addition, they have accumulated three consecutive victories on the road against Mineros de Zacatecas (0-2), Cimarrones de Sonora (2-4) and Atlético Morelia (0-1), in that order.

With 21 points, after their recent draw (1-1) against Tapatío in the building on supermanzana 21, they occupy the fourth position, tied for the moment with the Toros del Atlético Celaya and Potros de Hierro del Atlante, even, the three with the same goal difference (+7) except that the Cancun team has 19 goals, compared to 18 and 15 of their runner-up.

Venados (26), Leones Negros (23), Club Atlético La Paz (22), Cancún FC (21), Celaya (21) and Atlante (21) are the six that would advance directly to the Liguilla, if the competition ended today in its regular calendar.

as a local

Venados is the leader of the competition with 26 points, with a balance of eight wins, two draws, two losses, 22 goals for, ten against (difference of +12).

In five matches played at home, they won three, two by identical scores (1-0) against Mineros de Zacatecas and Atlante, another against Alebrijes de Oaxaca (2-1) in exchange for a pair of draws (1-1) with Leones Negros of the University of Guadalajara and without goals against Cimarrones de Sonora.

In fact, they have gone 13 games without losing on their court, since the fourth day of the Apertura 2023, on Friday, August 11 against Club Atlético La Paz. On that occasion, the Baja Californians triumphed (1-3) with two goals from José Gurrola and another from Michelle Benítez.

At the 'Carlos Iturralde Rivero' they will meet for the fifth time, the fourth in the regular phase, since in the aforementioned Apertura 2023 they were hosts in the first leg of the Quarterfinals, when they emerged victorious (1-0) by the minimum difference.

Colombian Sleyther Lora, Argentine Luciano Nequecaur, Luis Ángel Calzadilla and Oswaldo Guzmán, with a hat-trick each, are the best scorers of the squad led by Rafael Fernández.
