BOSTON CANCUN FC TIES WITH PIONEROS AND GETS THE EXTRA POINT ON PENALTIES
Driven by their respective cheering groups, who 'put together' a great performance in the CEDAR stands, the hosts thwarted the Juniors' victory with a goal from Alejandro Álvarez in the final stretch of the exciting duel, corresponding to the 25th and penultimate matchday of the 2023-2024 LTDP Season
Cancún, Quintana Roo, April 13, 2024.- Boston Cancún FC and Pioneros Juniors played a power-to-power game on the synthetic field of the State High Performance Sports Center (CEDAR), which ended in a tie (1-1) and on penalties proclaimed the hosts the winner (4-3), on the occasion of the 25th and penultimate matchday of the regular phase of the 2023-2024 Season of the Third Professional Division League (LTDP), Group One.
The atmosphere in the stands justified the great expectations that the match caused. 'La Malagua' and 'Negra Malix' engaged in a real 'battle' of chants and drums that gave it a very special flavour.
On the field, both teams played a match that was more difficult than exciting in the first half.
The home team had a great chance, the clearest of the match, with a shot from Juan Marín that the goalkeeper, Arturo Villatoro, managed to control.
The second half began when Pioneros created a great dangerous play, with a shot from Juan José Huerta, slightly deflected from Lusiel Gómez's goal.
To the rhythm of the batucada, both teams tried in every way to break the tie. And the visitors succeeded with a goal by Emiliano Martínez, in a counterattack at the near post, derived from a lobbed shot that hit Adolfo Vidal on the crossbar. In the 64th minute, Pioneros was already winning.
Boston, determined to make the defeat dear, repeatedly offended its archrival from Cancun. The captain, Alejandro Núñez, escaped on the right and with a perfect pass, set up his namesake, Alejandro Álvarez, who without hesitation, fired a shot that just missed Villatoro's goal.
The hosts equalised the score (1-1) with a shot from Alejandro Álvarez, close to the base of Villatoro's left post. Great goal at 82'!
In the penalty shootout, the Bostonians earned the extra point with their 4-3 victory. Although the captain, Alejandro Núñez and Romario Domínguez, missed when the shootout started, their teammates, Enoc Márquez, Alejandro Álvarez, Luca Septién and Geremi Vega scored against the goalkeeper, Arturo Villatoro.
For Pioneros, José Cisneros, Francisco Valdez and Alex Román were effective, but not Jesús Vidal, Ángel Domínguez and Kevin Hernández, the latter of whom hit the crossbar with his shot.
With the pair of points, the team led by professor Edgar Iván Liévano Flores now has 48. On the other hand, Pioneros, already qualified, reached 60.
On the 26th and final matchday of the regular phase, Boston Cancún FC will visit the Zorros de Puerto Morelos on Saturday, April 20.
