CANCUN FC WILL CLASH AGAINST ATLANTE IN THE QUARTER-FINALS OF CLAUSURA 2024

The champion of the Expansion League will face the Potros, first, at the 'Andrés Quintana Roo' stadium and later, in Mexico City, for a place in the Semifinals

Cancún, Quintana Roo, April 13, 2024.- Cancún FC, champion of the Expansion League, already has an opponent for the Quarterfinals of the 2024 Clausura Tournament: none other than the Potros de Hierro del Atlante, the same team they beat in the Final of the 2023 Apertura at the 'Andrés Quintana Roo' stadium.

The triumph (4-0) of the blue and red team in the City of Sports against Correcaminos of the Autonomous University of Tamaulipas (UAT), combined with the victory (1-2) as a visitor of Tapatío in Celaya, led to the elimination between Iguanas and Potros.

Compared to the previous tournament, when the Caribbeans played the second leg of the Quarterfinals, Semifinals and the Final as host, this time they will start precisely as locals in the building on superblock 21, still on a date and time to be defined.

The Iguanas have taken the measure of the Atlantistas in the last four matches, since they met on the penultimate day of the Apertura 2023, in the country's capital, on Thursday, October 26, with a goal from the African, Abdoul Kairou Amoustapha.

In the Final, on December 3, Cancún FC won the title with a resounding (3-0) in the return match, at the 'Andrés Quintana Roo' stadium, after a goalless draw in the first leg.

In this campaign, on the third date, on Thursday, January 25, already as champions, the team led by the professor, Luis Arce, imposed conditions (2-0) in 'paradise'. In those four games, the balance is three wins, one draw, six goals in favor and none against.

Jose Rodriguez,
top scorer

With nine goals, Colombian forward José Rodríguez was crowned the tournament's top scorer.

Although the South American, former member of Alacranes de Durango, Inter Playa del Carmen, Pioneros de Cancún and the Potros de Hierro del Atlante, did not score in the last two games, the so-called 'Colo' was awarded the crown as the best scorer during the 14 games he played as a starter.

In this category, in second place was Michell Rodríguez, former member of Cancún FC, current player of the Toros del Atlético Celaya, with eight goals.
