Cancún, Quintana Roo, October 24, 2024.- Cancún FC will draw its last game of the regular phase of the 2024 Apertura Tournament of the Expansion League against Atlético Morelia at the 'Andrés Quintana Roo' stadium.
The match this Friday, the 25th, will mean for the Iguanas the opportunity to close at home with a victory that will allow them to stay in the fight for a ticket to the final phase.
There will be three crucial matches (including the rescheduled match against Dorados de Sinaloa, on Tuesday, October 29, and the last match, in La Paz, on Friday, November 1) for the team led by Luis Arce, in the final stretch of the campaign.
The picture is as follows: they have 14 points, thanks to four wins, two draws, five losses, 14 goals scored and 15 conceded. At the moment, they are in ninth place, tied with Tepatitlán, but with a better goal difference for the team from Jalisco (+4 to -1 for the team from Cancun).
The top eight teams qualify for the final phase. Remember that in this category, starting with the 2024-2025 season, the 'Play In' round was eliminated.
In Cancun, Caribbeans and Michoacans met on four occasions, all very close duels. The first two, were for those now led by Mario García, by the minimum difference (1-2 in the Clausura and 0-1 in the Apertura, both in 2021).
The Iguanas subsequently won the remaining two in 2023 (1-0 in the Clausura and 2-0 in the Apertura), respectively.
Colombian José Rodríguez is his team's top scorer, with six goals.
Just one win on tour
In six away games, Atlético Morelia only won once (0-1) against La Paz at the 'Guaycura' stadium, on Friday, September 27, on the tenth matchday.
Outside of the 'José María Morelos y Pavón', the Michoacans scored five goals in exchange for ten allowed, with only five of the 13 units they registered.
In their most recent match, the team led by Mario García tied 0-0 against Mineros de Zacatecas.
Three wins, four draws, five losses, 11 goals for and 18 against (-7 difference), are the numbers of the Purépechas, placed in eleventh place. With four goals, Christopher Bryan Trejo is their best scorer.
