Cancún, Quintana Roo, August 2, 2024.- Cancún FC is back and will do so this weekend, on 'Sábados de la Iguana', when the 2024 Apertura Tournament of the Liga de Expansión MX gets underway at the 'Andrés Quintana Roo' stadium.

The Champion of Champions of the 2023-2024 Season returns corrected and augmented, with the aim of maintaining the winning momentum that made it the best team of the previous campaign.

Although it is true that he will no longer have elements such as José Juan 'Gallito' Vázquez, Raúl Castillo and Alfonso Tamay, he will now include in his ranks the also experienced Andrés Iniestra, and very well-identified faces, such as the Cancunenses, Adán Zaragoza and Mauro Pérez. For the midfielder, it will be his second stage with the Caribbeans, after the experience he lived with Federico Vilar between the Apertura 2021 and Clausura 2022. On the other hand, the forward arrives as one of the great signings, in search of shoring up the axis of the attack, led by the scoring champion, the Colombian, José Rodríguez.

Carlos Prieto, born in Durango but forged as a footballer in Quintana Roo, also returns to the institution, after being directed by Vilar himself (Apertura 2021 and Clausura 2022) and the Spaniard, Íñigo Idiákez (Apertura 2022 and Clausura 2013).

In total, the Iguanas will have three players born in the city, including Jorge Díaz Price.

Sergio Rubio (goalkeeper), Leonardo Zabala (central defender), Óscar Villa (left back), Alan Rodríguez, Zahid Muñoz and Jean Unjanque (midfielders) are also new additions for this semester.

In the five occasions that Cancún FC hosted the Alteños, they emerged victorious on four occasions (three in the regular phase and one in the Reclassification, in a penalty shootout), the most recent (2-0) on Tuesday, March 19, corresponding to the eleventh date of the Clausura 2024.

On the other hand, on Tuesday, October 11, in the framework of matchday 17 of the Apertura 2022, they fell (1-2) with goals from Juan Luis Ocon and Brian Ariel Gambarte. For the hosts, Antonio López scored.

'Tepa', with
Lorona and Tamay

Led by the tapatío, Héctor Jair Real, the Jalisco team tied
(1-1) in their presentation against Venados FC at the 'Carlos Iturralde Rivero' stadium.

Real, led Racing FC Porto Palmeiras and now with the Alteños he seeks to regain the leading role they had with Francisco Ramírez, the coach who led them to win the title in the Clausura 2021 against Atlético Morelia and to be proclaimed Champion of Champions of the 2020-2021 Season, in the Final that they beat Tampico Madero on penalties (5-3), respectively.

For this competition, it will have in its ranks two players very well identified by the Cancun fans: Alfonso Tamay and Luis Loroña, former members of the Iguanas, precisely.

Tamay played for a year and a half with Cancún FC (44 regular phase matches and 10 Liguilla matches), with a total of seven goals in that period, all in the first round.

In three tournaments, from Clausura 2023 to Clausura 2024, Luis Loroña played 31 games in the regular phase and five in the final phase, with a balance of nine goals in his first campaign, as did Alfonso in the regular stage.

Tepa has not won as a visitor in the entire Clausura 2024 (it has not done so since Friday, October 13, when it beat (0-1) Coyotes de Tlaxcala at the 'Tlahuicole' stadium, on matchday 13 of the Apertura 2023).
