CANCUN FC TRIUMPHS AGAINST ALTEÑOS DE TEPATITLÁN IN THEIR DEBUT IN THE APERTURA 2024
Goals by Axl Padilla and Jorge Díaz Price lead the Iguanas to victory (2-0) in their presentation at the 'Andrés Quintana Roo' stadium
Cancún, Quintana Roo, August 3, 2024.- Cancún FC started with a victory (2-0) against the Alteños de Tepatitlán, as the 2024 Apertura Tournament of the Liga de Expansión MX got underway at the 'Andrés Quintana Roo' stadium.
The Iguanas had not played at home and in front of their fans since May 15, when they faced the Potros de Hierro del Atlante in the first leg of the Campeón de Campeones Final.
Regarding last week's international commitment in Austin, Texas, the squad led by professor Luis Arce presented reinforcements in its lineup, such as midfielder Zahid Muñoz.
Later, in the second half, at 61', Alan Rodríguez appeared, replacing Francisco Paul Uscanga.
Mauro Pérez and Carlos Prieto also made their debuts with the Iguanas. The Caribbean native took the place of the Colombian, José Rodríguez, while Óscar Villa did so for Axl Padilla. Jonathan Hernández gave way to Carlos Prieto, all three in the 72nd minute.
Almost at the end, in the 84th minute to be exact, the Senegalese, Jean Unjanque, came on for Johan Alonzo.
As they did on the opening day against Venados at the 'Carlos Iturralde Rivero', the Jalisco team included in their squad Alfonso Tamay and Luis Loroña, former players of Cancún FC.
The match started off intensely, with opportunities for both sides. The visitors had the first great chance when Brandon Rodriguez fired a shot off the right post, putting goalkeeper Cristopher Andrade in trouble.
Cancún FC immediately reacted with a breakaway by Colombian José Rodríguez, with a shot stuck to the base of the right post of goalkeeper Ricardo Díaz. A scare for the Alteños!
The visitors, led by Héctor Real, made things difficult for their rivals for half an hour, until at 31', the Cancun team opened the scoring with a play by Jorge Díaz Price, who was almost falling and managed to touch the ball as Axl Padilla arrived, only for him to connect the ball to the base of Díaz's right post.
Three minutes later, Jorge Díaz Price appeared with a powerful shot that hit Díaz's left post. Goal! The Iguanas were already ahead (2-0).
Before the end of the first half, Axl Padilla had the third with a play similar to the one for his goal, facing the goal, only this time his shot went wide.
Already in the second half, before Eduardo Pastrana was sent off, 'Tepa' came close to scoring, but Luis Loroña was unable to get the ball past Cristopher Andrade a few metres away.
Cancún FC launched a new offensive, through the inspired Jorge Díaz Price, who eluded several defenders in the small area, until he dared to shoot, but Ricardo Díaz prevented the goal.
The victory allows the Caribbeans to add their first three points. On the other hand, the Alteños stayed with one point, after the draw they rescued last week, in Mérida.
On the third day, Cancún FC will visit Alebrijes, on Saturday, August 10 at 7:00 p.m. (Quintana Roo time) at the Technological Institute of Oaxaca.
