With a great performance by the Cancun native, Alfonso Tamay, the Iguanas claim their first victory as a visitor in the 2023 Apertura Tournament of the MX Expansion League

La Paz, Baja California Sur September 13, 2023.- Cancún FC is back in the 2023 Apertura Tournament of the MX Expansion League.
A great performance by the Cancun native, Alfonso Tamay, was key in the victory (1-4) of the Iguanas, against none other than the leader, Club Atlético La Paz, at the 'Guaycura' stadium, within the framework of the ninth day.

In addition, it was the first time he won with a score like that, on tour.

At 3', Cancún FC opened the scoring with a great goal from Johan Alonzo, with a powerful shot from outside the large area that left the goalkeeper, Jonathan Estrada, no chance. It was the first visiting goal for the Caribbean in the campaign.

The Cancun squad extended the lead (0-2) in the 22nd minute with a score by Raúl Castillo, after a great play by Alfonso Tamay on the left wing, evading the defense's mark. The number '25' shot, but Estrada rejected it, allowing Castillo to push the ball into the six-yard box.

The first ten minutes were dizzying, Cancún FC had control of the match. La Paz leveled the action, until at 26' Michelle Benítez did not think twice and with a powerful shot hit the base of the left post, the hosts scored.
Five minutes later, Benítez himself attempted a colorful overhead kick that came close to leveling the score. The Baja Californians were back.

The complement began when at 51', Cancún FC scored the third goal, with Alfonso Tamay as the architect, as he took advantage of an error in the start of the low team of La Paz, when he was one-on-one with the goalkeeper, Jonathan Estrada. For his good fortune, he was accompanied on the side by the Colombian, José Rodríguez, who only countered the ball to the base of the left post.

The player of the night, Alfonso Tamay from Cancun, scored the fourth for the Iguanas, sealing the resounding victory in the 75th minute.
The victory, first on tour and fourth of the campaign, allows Cancún FC to add 13 points. For its part, Club Atlético La Paz stagnated at 16.

On the tenth date, the Caribbean team will host Cimarrones de Sonora at the 'Andrés Quintana Roo' stadium, on Tuesday, September 19.
