'La Jaiba Brava' made the difference with a goal by José López at 56' at the 'Andrés Quintana Roo' stadium, on the fifth day of the 2024 Apertura Tournament of the Liga de Expansión MX

Cancún, Quintana Roo, August 24, 2024.- A goal by José López at 56' defined the intense battle between Cancún FC and Tampico Madero at the 'Andrés Quintana Roo' stadium, on the fifth day of the 2024 Apertura Tournament of the Liga de Expansión MX.

Those led by professor Luis Arce had not lost as a host in the regular phase since September 6, when Coyotes de Tlaxcala imposed conditions (1-2) on the eighth day of the Apertura 2023.

Before the start of the match, the Cancun board of directors gave a recognition to the defender, Edson García, former member of the Iguanas, who entered in the final stretch for the Colombian, Jesús Ángulo.

The special guests of the Caribbeans were the players of El Calor de Cancún, the state's representative in the National Professional Basketball League (LNBP).

The match started off lively, with both teams creating dangerous chances. In fact, at that moment, the jaibos were close to opening the scoring through Jesús Angulo just a few metres from the goal guarded by Gustavo Gutiérrez, but he reacted in time to prevent the goal.

Cancún FC responded in the 13th minute with a long-distance shot from Jorge Díaz Price, right into the hands of goalkeeper Gerardo Ruiz. Five minutes later, Axl Padilla did the same, only this time 'Kampa' released the ball and the Colombian José Rodríguez almost countered.

In the dying moments of the first half, once again 'Kampa' played the hero with a double save, first by deflecting José Rodríguez's shot, and then, derived from that action, Johan Alonzo counter-shot, but Ruiz stretched out his hand and saved the ball in spectacular fashion.

Already in the second half, at 56', Tampico Madero broke the tie with a long-distance shot by José López, which Gustavo Gutiérrez could not avoid and went to the base of the left post.

Luis Arce ordered the entry of Mauro Guadarrama, Carlos Prieto and Oscar Villa to replace Paul Uscanga, Jonathan Hernandez and Axl Padilla, in that order. Later, in the 77th minute, Andres Iniestra and the African, Jean Unjanque took the places of Junior Moreira and Zahid Muñoz.

The result leaves the team from Cancun with seven points. On the other hand, the team from Tamaulipas has six.

On the sixth date, the Iguanas will travel to Mérida to face Venados FC in the Peninsular Classic, on Saturday, August 31.
