Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, October 16, 2024.- Cancún FC achieved a great victory (1-3) against Correcaminos of the Autonomous University of Tamaulipas (UAT) at the 'Marte R. Gómez' stadium, in a pending game of the first day of the 2024 Apertura Tournament of the Liga de Expansión MX.
The result fully involves the Iguanas in the fight for a ticket to the Liguilla, in the final stretch of the competition.
The first big dangerous play was precisely from Cancún FC, with a header from Mauro Guadarrama, just wide of Rubén Castellanos' goal.
Four minutes from the end of the first half, the Iguanas opened the scoring, thanks to a play by Jonathan Hernández, with a low pass, to the arrival of Johan Alonzo, who crashed his shot into the defense. Fortunately for the Caribbeans, the ball was left adrift, which José Rodríguez took advantage of to push it and beat the goalkeeper, Rubén Castellanos.
Almost immediately, the Tamaulipas team came close to equalizing the score, but Joaquín Estopier, in a one-on-one with Gutiérrez, did not direct his shot correctly and the ball went wide.
The second half began and Cancún FC scored the second goal at 52', with a great play on the left by Óscar Villa to the heart of the area, where Jorge Díaz Price set up Jose Rodríguez with a header, who without hesitation, headed the ball to beat the goalkeeper, Castellanos, to the right post.
Correcaminos reacted in the 60th minute, after a series of shots that, first, Jonathan Hernández prevented when he was guarding the right post. Then, the goalkeeper, Gustavo Gutiérrez, prevented his goal from falling on a couple of occasions, until Miguel Zapata sent it into the back of the net.
With Alan Rodríguez and the African, Junior Moreira, replacing Jorge Díaz Price and Andrés Iniestra, both at 65', they came close to scoring the third, with a shot from Johan Alonzo that was rejected by the goalkeeper, Rubén Castellanos.
At 85', Cancún FC set the final score with a breakaway by Johan Alonzo himself, who defined with a powerful shot to the base of Castellanos' left post.
