CANCUN FC AND CELAYA DIVIDE HONORS AT THE 'ANDRÉS QUINTANA ROO' STADIUM

The champion had not equaled at home since Tuesday, February 7, on the sixth day of Clausura 2023, when they tied against Atlante

Cancún, Quintana Roo February 13, 2024.- Cancún FC and Celaya divided honors (1-1) at the 'Andrés Quintana Roo' stadium, on the sixth day of the 2024 Clausura Tournament of the Expansion League.

The champion had not tied at home since Tuesday, February 7, on the sixth day of Clausura 2023, when they tied by the same score (1-1) against the Potros de Hierro del Atlante. The result allows the Caribbean people to access seven points. For their part, the bureles agreed to ten.

The squad led by the teacher, Luis Arce, has not lost at home since September 6, on the eighth date of Apertura 2023, when it fell (1-2) against Coyotes de Tlaxcala. Now, they have accumulated nine matches without defeat (three in the regular phase of the previous campaign, three more in the Liguilla and three in the current competition).

Cancún FC opened the scoring at 15' with a penalty by Raúl Castillo, when the Celaya defense committed a handball in the area. The whistler, Joaquín Alberto Vizcarra, did not hesitate to score the maximum penalty.

With the advantage, the champions sought the second through the Colombian, José Rodríguez and the Cancun native, Alfonso Tamay.

The hosts dominated, when the whistler sent off José Juan 'Gallo' Vázquez in the 25th minute for raising his leg at an opponent on the edge of the large area. From that foul, the Toros' tie was born, a great goal from a free kick by Adolfo Domínguez, with a shot to the right corner by Gustavo Gutiérrez. At 27', Celaya tied the score.

A minute later, the referee, Joaquín Alberto Vizcarra, forgave the visitors the red card, due to an elbow from Michell Rodríguez to Johan Alonzo. Inexplicably, the action resulted in a reprimand.

The second half began when Celaya had the second, thanks to a powerful shot by Adolfo Domínguez that was spectacularly saved by the goalkeeper, Gustavo Gutiérrez.

The Iguanas responded with a counterattack orchestrated by Alfonso Tamay and José Rodríguez, which the latter attempted to resolve with a cross shot to the base of the left post. The Bulls were saved!

Despite the numerical disadvantage, Cancún FC put the low team on the ropes, with plays carried out precisely by Tamay and Rodríguez, however, the low team from Guanajuato knew how to counteract the momentum of the home team.

On the seventh day, the champion will visit Mineros de Zacatecas, on Tuesday, February 20 at the 'Carlos Vega Villalba' stadium.
