The Tricolor Femenil reappears before the Cancun fans with a resounding victory (4-1) against the Costa Ricans, framed by an emotional tribute to Montserrat Saldívar

Cancún, Quintana Roo, November 30, 2024.- The 'Andrés Quintana Roo' stadium, home of Cancún FC, experienced a historic moment, with the victory (4-1) of the Mexican Women's National Team against its counterpart from Costa Rica, after a 14-year absence.

As the Spanish coach, Pedro López, had anticipated, the Tricolor offered a great show in a First Division stadium, which also sent a message to the entire country that it was a good bet to host more games for the 'team of all'.

Just three minutes into the game, Mexico opened the scoring with a goal from Christina Marie Burkenroad.

In the 17th minute, the lead was extended with a goal from Scarlett Camberos, with a cross shot to the base of the right post.

Costa Rica reduced the deficit in the 25th minute with a great goal from Alexa Herrera, a long-distance shot into the left corner, leaving Blanca Félix with no chance.

Before the end of the first half, the Costa Ricans were close to tying the score, but the goalkeeper, Blanca Félix, prevented it.

A helicopter in green, white and red colors flew over the building on Superblock 21, one of the most spectacular moments of the night.

The second half began and the Aztec team scored the third, this time with a header from Rebeca Bernal.

Finally, what the fans were longing for: the entry of Montserrat Saldívar. The number '25' took Alice Soto's place at 55'.

Nicole Pérez also joined the party, at 57', with the score 4-1.

A very Mexican night. Each goal scored by the hosts was accompanied by 'El Son de la Negra', while 'El Cielito Lindo' was sung by the 7,200 people who attended the 'Andrés Quintana Roo' stadium.

At halftime, a group of volunteers, led by Berenice Sosa Osorio, Secretary of Municipal Welfare in Benito Juárez, joined the orange ribbon, which symbolizes the rejection of violence against women.

The crowd enjoyed a great show that caused the Cancun residents to rejoice. Once the match was over, the Iguanas' board of directors, headed by the vice president, Giovanni Solazzi, presented a personalized jersey to the Caribbean soccer player, Montserrat Saldívar.

El Tricolor will face Panama on Tuesday, December 3 at the 'Carlos Iturralde Rivero' stadium in Merida, Yucatan.
