Cancún, Quintana Roo, November 29, 2024.- The home of Cancún FC, the 'Andrés Quintana Roo' stadium, will make history this Saturday, November 30, with the return of the Mexican Women's National Team, after its adventure in the 2010 Pre-World Cup.
Without a doubt, it represents a historic moment for the city and the Iguanas to host a Tricolor game on a FIFA date, after a 14-year absence.
On that occasion, when Mexico played the tournament at the 'Beto Ávila' stadium (first round and semi-finals) and precisely at the 'Andrés Quintana Roo' (third place and final), qualifying for the 2011 World Cup in Germany, Leonardo Cuéllar served as technical director.
The team included Pamela Tajonar, Kenti Robles, Maribel Domínguez, Mónica Vergara, Evelyn López, Guadalupe Worbis and Stephany Mayor, to name a few.
In that tournament, El Tri faced Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago and Canada in the first round at the Beto Ávila Stadium. In the Semifinals, in the Tigres' own 'den', Mexico beat the United States (2-1), but lost (0-1) in the Final against Canada on Monday, November 8, at the Andrés Quintana Roo Stadium. In the end, both countries qualified for the 2011 tournament in Germany.
Now, following the birth of the Liga MX Femenil, in the midst of the boom of the new digital era, the Mexican National Team will write a new chapter in Quintana Roo territory, better yet, led by one of its main representatives: Cancun native Montserrat Saldívar, member of the Águilas del América and with two World Cups at 18 years of age (Under 17 in India and Under 20 in Colombia), respectively.
'Montse', who scored a pair of goals in the U-20 World Cup in Colombia, made her debut in October of this year with the senior category.
