MEXICAN WOMEN'S NATIONAL TEAM WILL PLAY AGAINST COSTA RICA IN CANCUN

The Tricolor Mayor will host the Costa Ricans, next Saturday, November 30th at the 'Andrés Quintana Roo' stadium

Cancún, Quintana Roo, November 13, 2024.- The 'Andrés Quintana Roo' stadium will be dressed up for the occasion with the presence of the Mexican Women's National Team, on November 30 at 8:00 p.m., when it hosts its counterpart from Costa Rica.

Giovanni Solazzi, vice president of Cancún FC, accompanied by the director of sports operations, Alejandro Vela, and the sports director of the Women's National Teams, Andrea Rodebaugh, offered the details at a press conference at the 'Puerto Santo' restaurant, located in Puerto Juárez.

"Today is a very important day, in an emblematic place, with our sea in the background. It is very special because the Mexican Women's National Team is returning to Cancun," said Giovanni Solazzi.

The Tricolor, led by the Spaniard, Pedro López, will return to 'paradise', after its adventure in the 2010 Pre-World Cup, with venues in the 'Beto Ávila' stadium, home of the baseball team, Tigres de Quintana Roo, and specifically, the 'Andrés Quintana Roo'.

On that occasion, they were led by Leonardo Cuéllar, with players such as Pamela Tajonar, Kenti Robles, Maribel Domínguez, Mónica Vergara, Evelyn López, Guadalupe Worbis and Stephany Mayor, to name a few.

In that competition, El Tri faced Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago and Canada in the first round at the Beto Ávila. In the Semifinals, in the Tigres' own 'den', Mexico beat the United States (2-1), but lost (0-1) in the Final against Canada on Monday, November 8, at the Andrés Quintana Roo. In the end, both countries qualified for the 2011 tournament in Germany.

That was the last time they played in Cancun, specifically, in the current home of the Iguanas. 14 years after that experience, Mexico will have the Costa Ricans as their rival. On Tuesday, December 3, they will travel to Merida, to the 'Carlos Iturralde Rivero' stadium, for their duel against Panama.

"The game we won here in Cancun against the United States in 2010 was historic.

Women's soccer is evolving and is currently the fastest growing sport in the world," acknowledged Andrea Rodebaugh.

Montserrat Saldívar, a Cancun midfielder for América and a player in the U-17 and U-20 World Cup in Israel and Colombia, is one of the figures to follow, in case she is called up on November 21 or 22.

The current champion, Monterrey, in addition to Pachuca and Chivas, are other teams that provide players. Rayadas, Tuzas, Amazonas (Tigres) and Águilas have already qualified for the Semifinals of the 2024 Apertura of the Liga MX Femenil.

The meeting with the media ended when the Iguanas' board of directors gave Rodebaugh a personalized Cancún FC jersey. The leader did the same by giving them the Tricolor jersey.
